I built an arcade machine…

I built an arcade machine with a raspberry pi and an emulator.  I like playing a lot of the old games, Rolling Thunder, Moon Patrol, Rastan, Shinobi, Puzzle Bobble, Pooyan, Rampage, Xenophobe,  Xevious, Dig Dug, R-Type, Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom,  TNMT, Golden Axe, Double Dragon, etc., but my all time favorite is Q*Bert.   My high score is ~278,000 on level 10 (Level 9 repeats itself).    I thought maybe I could go for the world record with a bit more practice, but the high score is ~37,000,000 points.  The guy played for like two days straight.

I'm also a fan of God of War, Red Dead Redemption and Ghost of Tsunima.   Fortnite is fun too.

I never played 93, but did…

I never played 93, but did learn the one-timer in 94 despite being a casual player.  It was pretty sweet.  Not a huge hockey guy but Jeremy Roenick was great in that game.

The Bosas are near the top…

The Bosas are near the top of the league, but Chase Young was supposed to be a bust.  Ojabo hasn't been healthy, but with Hutchinson being a beast, Rashan Gary, Brandon Graham, Mike Danna, Frank Clark, Kwity Paye and [Hudson] playing well I'm curious who has more talent in the NFL.  I'm assuming Jayden Harrell and Braiden McGregor are the others.  Too bad Winovich retired.

Edit:  Here is OSU's list: Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa, Chase Young, Tyreke Smith, Zach Harrison, Sam Hubbard, Tyquan Lewis, Jaylyn Holmes, and Jonathan Cooper

Fire Warde!!!

Fire Warde!!!

[NIL] should pay for that…

[NIL] should pay for that insurance.

That makes sense.  At first…

That makes sense.  At first I thought the slow mo and the real time speed clips were different hits.  The real time looks like a good legit hit and the slow mo looks like he was trying to kill the guy.

I was going to ask if this…

I was going to ask if this was head hunting or some weird term I don't know.  I'm surprised there wasn't a fight after that.

He missed.

He missed.

In Portage we had a beauty…

In Portage we had a beauty contest that my girlfriend and a bunch of other girls were in.  We were all waiting to see Ms. Climax but she never showed up.  I think maybe she didn’t exist in the first place. My girlfriend confirmed that that was the case.

I've seen lots of headlines…

I've seen lots of headlines that the studies that say that mushrooms, ketamine, ayahuasca, marijuana and other drugs and psychedelics can help people with whatever ails them.  I'm skeptical because there is an implicit bias with many of those researchers who are looking for reasons to justify those drugs.

Core to the idea of a magic pill is that there is something that you can take that will make everything better and make everything make sense.  People who believe in a magic pill are the same ones who fall to MLM schemes, buy lottery tickets, think that there UFOs, that Bill Gates is putting microchips in vaccines that the the government or corporations are causing all of their problems.   While there is always a grain of truth to this garbage there is no magic pill or explanation.  I know this because aliens are actually time traveling versions of our future selves and me from the future explained this all to me while I was trippin balls on ayahuasca.

Isn’t that some Carnival or euro soccer song?  OLUUUU, Olu, Olu, OLUUUU

The image is him attempting a shoestring tackle of Bennie Wells.  Should probably make that something more flattering.

It looks weak over all, but…

It looks weak over all, but I don't know FSU, Louisville and USC could all be good next year.  Most years Michigan only has 3 tough in-conference games.

Which is better?

A) F*ck the I-rish

B)To Hell with Notre Dame

In the toy industry there is…

In the toy industry there is a category of toys called Yak back.  It was basically a voice recorder on a chip.  Gach back needs to become a thing.  I’m not sure what the meaning is yet, but it should be a thing.   Discuss amongst yourselves.

I have friends who are…

I have friends who are fundraisers for theaters, symphony orchestras and other "charities."  They take old ladies out to lunch and schmooze business leaders.  Imagine becoming a sought after coach and then having to suck up to not only cocky teenagers, but also the extremely wealthy.  No wonder Harbaugh left for the Chargers.

While the prude in me who…

While the prude in me who didn't really drink before freshman year of college wants to shame Lewan for his unhealthy attitude towards drinking and the potential effect it might have on his daughters development, I can't.  Chugging a beer is stupid, but not much more stupid than seeing who can pee farther, the one chip challenge, feats of strength and all of the other things that give life a little zest.  Carpe Diem.

Wasn't that the whole deal…

For those who don't know that was a Major League reference:

and FWIW Jesus was famous for hitting curve balls.  In Mark 12 (I had to look it up) the Pharisees and Herodians try to catch Jesus in his words by asking him if they should pay taxes to Caesar.

15 Should we pay or shouldn’t we?” But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” 16 They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?”

“Caesar’s,” they replied.

17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.”

Uhhh....  that doesn't sound…

Uhhh....  that doesn't sound sketch at all.

Never even occurred to me that NFL teams don’t have Fullbacks.  I did bury the lead.

On your cheering patterns:  this is why the NBA needs to figure out a way to have players play in college for longer.

It is real. They did another one at Comic-Con for The Dark Knight.

Cool story bro:A friend of…

Cool story bro:

A friend of mine who is a former Imagineer is good friends with Trent Reznor.  He also happens to design Augmented Reality Games along with another friend.  Their game for NIN included putting a thumb drive on a urinal at a NIN concert.   When a fan found it and stuck it in their computer it "simulated" a virus and gave the fan a puzzle to solve.  The fan put the puzzle online and a bunch of hardcore NIN fans collaborated to solve the puzzle which told them to show up at this underground club in LA.  About 100 of them showed up.  A NIN cover band came on stage and started playing.  After a few songs my buddies burst into the club dresses as SWAT officers and arrested the NIN fans.  (They were worried about the NIN fans fighting back but luckily avoided any violence.)  They drove the fans to another location where NIN actually performed and the fans got a bunch of free swag for solving the puzzle.

Is Khani Rooths still…

Is Khani Rooths still considering UofM?  Is TJ Power visiting or is it just wishful thinking?

My 13 year old has total…

My 13 year old has total brain rot from [YouTube/Snap/Insta].  I can’t understand why he doesn’t do something productive with his time like reading MGoBlog.

Looks like he was being…

Looks like he was being recruited by Stanford as well as B1G schools so probably not an issue with academics.

I can buy your argument for…

I can buy your argument for basketball in the portal/NIL era.  Less so for football as it takes time to build.  Experiments like RR and Deion don't necessarily work and you spend 8-12 years climbing out of your hole.

That said,  welcome Vlad!

Awesome that All and Barner…

Awesome that All and Barner were taken before Cade Stover.

May is killing it.  After…

May is killing it.  After this last week/weekend, I'm jonesing for another commit.  Do we get anyone else?  Khani Rooths?  Seems like Power Forward is the only spot where it seems like another quality player might get some time.

From Brian's Post:

PG: Tre Donaldson (Jr), Durral Brooks (Fr), Lorenzo Cason (Fr)
SG: Roddy Gayle (Jr), George Washington III (So), Justin Pippen (Fr)
SF: Rubin Jones (Sr*), Nimari Burnett (Jr*), Jace Howard (Sr*)
PF: Sam Walters (So), Will Tschetter (Jr)
C: Vlad Goldin(Sr*), Danny Wolf (Jr)

Oh yeah.  Bang me!

That wouldn't be very zen…

That wouldn't be very zen would it?   You are correct.  He was the fifth QB taken after 4 others.

I get it now.  People in the…

I get it now.  People in the South are really into seeing Cousins Penix.

The guys who drafted Penix…

The guys who drafted Penix won't be there at the end or this year or next.  Yeah the Raiders might have taken him at 13, but Atlanta has a $180 million dollar QB.  Kirk Cousins has to be the luckiest guy alive.  He's a good but not great QB and just keeps getting paid.

You called it.

You called it.

I mean JJ has the best of…

I mean JJ has the best of all worlds.

  1. He's a top 10 pick.
  2. He's on a team with a good line and an awesome WR.
  3. There is a journeyman QB ahead of him so he doesn't have to start right away, but he can beat him out for the position.
  4. There were 4 QBs taken ahead of him and the press disrespected the pick so he gets to play with a chip on his shoulder.

Edit:  There were 4 QBs taken ahead of JJ.  He was the fifth.

Setting expectations to…

Setting expectations to avoid BPONE.  That said how is a 6 seed low expectations.  There are many years we didn’t even make the tournament under Beilein, Howard and Fisher.

Nice!

Nice!

Great to see some of these…

Great to see some of these names that we've been hearing signing on.  Go Blue!

Welcome Rubin!   Go Blue! …

Welcome Rubin!   Go Blue!

247 says he is a combo guard rather than just point or shooting. It feels like May is going after a lot of guards that can play multiple spots, which is how FAU was described.

...and I'm sorry that is a…

...and I'm sorry that is a bad crop.  What is Stephen Colbert doing with his right arm...

It is a rough scale.  You…

It is a rough scale.  You have to be elite to get the top two rankings.  Yellow (maize?) seems like a C even though it is A work.

https://mgoblog.com/sites/default/files/users/user26319/2024-04/emojis.jpg (the insert picture bit isn't working)

Blue = Charles Woodson  A+ /A

Green = really good A  /B

Yellow = good  A- /C

Gray = needs work  B / D

I remember getting screwed by the curve a couple of times at Michigan, but the optics on the emojis are rough.  All that said, I think they are very informative and helpful.

If I was 7-10" taller and…

If I was 7-10" taller and had the same pad level I would have been a hell of an offensive lineman.

The NIL thing is frustrating…

The NIL thing is frustrating.  (obligatory: "Fire Warde!")   It shouldn't be hard to figure out.  I haven't done an official audit, but when our teams are good (Fischer/Fab5/Beilein/early Howard) we sell merch, the schools profile goes up and there is money.

First round NBA picks get $2 to $10M a year. The NBA rookie minimum is $1.1M.

Guys who are not NBA draftable and/or are borderline are probably worth half that and guys further down are worth half that again or less.  So an optimal stacked roster would look something like this:

  1.  $1M
  2. $1M
  3. $1M
  4. $1M
  5. $1M
  6. $1M
  7. $750k
  8. $750k
  9. $750k
  10. $500k
  11. $500k
  12. $500k
  13. $250k
  14. $250k
  15. $250k

Total:  $10.5M

I'm probably overpaying (with my imaginary money), but for the guys on the cusp you could make it worthwhile to stay an extra year and try to become a lottery pick or at least first round pick.   Got to imagine that additional ticket sales and concessions would cover that.  Can Chrisler Arena pay NIL?   Set it up as a separate legal entity.

Impressive that he's a take…

Impressive that he's a take for UConn.  I didn't watch much Michigan basketball the last 2-3 years, but read good things about Reed.

"aim higher"That just sounds…

"aim higher"

That just sounds like sour grapes.

It is possible that he is high on Michigan and [FSU] still but that he doesn't want to cut off potential suitors with all of the NIL flowing.  A top [40] guy like Rooths who will play 2-5 years is a lot more valuable to college programs than a top 10-20 guy who might suck their freshman year but still go pro.  (See Jett, Houstan and Diabate)  Rooths is exactly where we should be aiming.

Life is full of those what…

Life is full of those what-if and what-could-have-been moments.  Our family joke is that when you win a board game it is 100% skill and insight and if you lose the game is all luck and chance.  Life is like that too.  People over attribute success to their own capabilities and failure to the fates.  The truth is that there is a threshold of competency. Once you're beyond it there is some standard deviations in outcomes, but a lot of it is luck.  We were good enough to win in 2016. We should have won in 2016, but between the refs and Newsome being out, we didn't.  Had the spot been called right that would have been the best win.  Given our actual fate,  I agree with the OPs ranking of Harbaugh wins.

Brian, Seth and the…

Brian, Seth and the MGoPodCast crew said it was 100% this past weekend.

The only thing JJ lacks is…

The only thing JJ lacks is tape.  We were so run dependent that we didn't get to see him carry a game with his arm.  Henne had Braylonfest and a few others. Brady had the Orange Bowl with Alabama.  Grbac had an entire season with Desmond Howard and Derrick Alexander.

JJ is probably that guy, but no one can know for sure.  I can't complain at all about the last three years, but Harbaugh probably could have manufactured a few more plays for JJ's reel.

As far as I'm concerned,…

As far as I'm concerned, Dusty May cook.

I didn't know that Partridge…

I didn't know that Partridge landed with the Seahawks (or perhaps forgot.)  Good for him.  He didn't really overlap with McDonald, so it is good to see that he was taken care of.

I'm curious why you don't think he'll ever coach in college again.  My understanding is that he was coaching players on how to answer questions in the investigation.  This may be naive, but the reports sounded more like he was giving them media training than actually trying to cover anything up. His actions seemed very minor, but the timing and optics were really bad.  Michigan was getting ready to go to war with the B1G and his "helpfulness" knee-capped the whole effort.  Hopefully he sticks in the NFL, but in 3 years no one will remember or care about his transgressions.

I’m not a huge hockey fan,…

I’m not a huge hockey fan, but I usually go to one or two in person games a year and when the Sabres or Wings are in the playoffs I watch on TV.   I did not know there was a Team called the Arizona Coyotes.  Not only can I no longer tell you who is on what team, I can no longer tell you which cities have teams or what their names are.  FWIW I only know who the host of SNL is half the time and I never know who the heck the musical guest is.
