Wasn't there a debate in the…

Wasn't there a debate in the mid-90s about Allen Iverson playing soccer? Obviously his NBA career worked out pretty well. I don't remember if it was him or another athletic but smaller NBA player.

By "dumbbells" do you mean…

By "dumbbells" do you mean the weightlifting implement, or kids that didn't play school?

Shouldn't he be a defensive…

Shouldn't he be a defensive analyst? He's pretty good at stopping offenses from scoring.

"Redefine" in a very…

"Redefine" in a very positive way, I'm sure.

I'm all for college kids getting paid for something they spend a lot of time on, but this is going to be NIL on Tony Mandarich-level steroids. And it's going to further separate the haves (those two conferences) and the have-nots (literally everyone else).

Why not? Legitimately, why…

Why not? Legitimately, why not?

The last eight years starts…

The last eight years starts at "JT was short," depending on where you're counting from. In those 8 years the record is pretty even (not counting the Covid Year). So...... let's measure results on the field, not with arbitrary statistics.

(posting this as an MSU fan, who still revels in the "Whoa, trouble with the snap" game)

But again, they're not in…

But again, they're not in the TV deal for either of the two conferences. IF they make the playoffs, they'd be on the same network, sure. Far as loving/hating them but wanting to watch them..... ehhhh. I can't stand ND and I'm not going to turn on NBC (or sub to Peacock, lol) explicitly to root against them.

Is Sankey known as a great…

Is Sankey known as a great negotiator? He's pulled teams into the SEC, sure, but it's not like he had to twist arms when he has a tremendous bank vault backing him up.

Are they really carving them…

Are they really carving them out though? ND has its own TV contract separate from SEC/B1G.

Honestly, aside from brand…

Honestly, aside from brand recognition, how is Notre Dame given such respect at the bargaining table? I was going to say they have as many CFP appearances as MSU, but then I looked it up and apparently I blocked out their second appearance.

Without knowing anything …

Without knowing anything  about Men's Gymastics, I feel comfortable blaming Warde.

I get the homer perspective,…

I get the homer perspective, the kid played at UM, had a tremendous career, national title season, etc. And he seems to be a legitimately good person.

But yeah, as a Lions fan I'm not gonna care a single bit if he gets drafted #1 or inexplicably becomes Mr. Irrelevant (unless the Lions are still stockpiling luxury picks and decide to grab him). And in neither case does it predict his future success, or lack thereof.

I'm excited for every MSU…

I'm excited for every MSU football season to begin. Sometimes it's warranted: Kenneth Walker ripping off a long TD run against Northwestern on a Friday night in the first quarter. More often it's not. See gestures to recent history

One thing I will never ever forget is the 2003 season. MSU started out 2-0 before losing to noted powerhouse Louisiana Tech 20-19 at home. After the game one of my roommates came home utterly dejected and said, before us, his girlfriend, and God, "Well, I guess there goes the national title run this year" with a straight face. I've never laughed harder at something someone admitted in all my life, and I doubt I ever will.

Nowhere in his post did he…

Nowhere in his post did he mention anything about anything other than W-L records.

Yeah, and like I have said…

Yeah, and like I have said before, I'm not comparing Tebow to McCarthy in terms of skill or traits. But when the only argument is W-L, there you go. It also diminishes the other 21 starters, to a degree, because there's no way JJ was solely responsible for that record.

Counterpoint: Tim Tebow also…

Counterpoint: Tim Tebow also had a great record in college.

Totally agree with what you…

Totally agree with what you said. And I didn't think you were trying to set out to do anything like that. I've read your posts over the years and you've never struck me as anything but reasoned and intelligent. I'm just adding an insider's perspective, so to speak.

I mean, I get it. I…

I mean, I get it. I seriously doubt he or anyone who says anything like that means it maliciously.

Full disclosure: I first…

Full disclosure: I first looked into AA in like 2012 (?). I didn't go until 2019, and didn't get sober until two years after that. And even now I relapse from time to time. Just gotta keep tryin. Because when you stop trying, it's over.

You're not wrong, on the…

You're not wrong, on the surface, because that's how normal people act. But as a recovering alcoholic, it's not that easy, at least from personal experience. Every morning I'd wake up and think "today is the day I am going to get sober." And even if I made it all the way to the corner gas station, like literally two miles from my house, I'd stop and grab some. I tried cutting down to six packs cos I figured if I only had six I'd drink em and stop, no. Just went back and got more, and then I realized it cost me more in the long run.

And as a member of AA I can also safely say that a lot of people who make that conscious decision to get help often don't continue to seek that help. Because life after recovery is not a "oh hey, I'm better now, let's just have a quick nightcap and go to bed" thing. It's an everyday struggle thing.

Long story short, there's no shame in seeking help, there's no shame in falling down and getting back up, and there's no shame in admitting you have a problem.

I mean it supposes a lot,…

I mean it supposes a lot, but given the circumstances, it's not the craziest thing someone could say.

The NFL has looked the other…

The NFL has looked the other way on things like domestic abuse, drag racing that resulted in death, and other things. If anyone ever seriously believed that something like stolen signs would affect draft stock, they're incredibly delusional (or hoping the NFL did a 180 very abruptly).

It's a sham, man. You work,…

It's a sham, man. You work, and you work, and you work, and you look forward to that light at the end of the tunnel. And then you get there, and they pull the rug out from underneath you, and suddenly sending unsolicited genital pictures to women half your age is "bad."

Doubtful, but possible. But…

Doubtful, but possible. But Matt Weiss would have been 40 at the time, so maybe more possible in his mind. And it was probably easier to hack into an email account than it was to hack into his Insta and check the DMs.

He'd throw it over a…

He'd throw it over a mountain and somehow still overthrow the mountain.

UM could have diagrammed the…

UM could have diagrammed the plays for MSU and still beaten them.

Given the way his career…

Given the way his career trajectory has gone since he got the UM job, it's not difficult to say that he would have failed regardless of how much buy-in he got. Obviously it would have been more successful with support, but that defense..... ooooofffff. And "You Raise Me Up?"

I don't think it was ever…

I don't think it was ever even suggested that he "knew" anything anyone else on the staff did not. There was supposedly evidence provided that he tried to cover up what happened, either by destroying it or instructing players what to say. Obviously compelling enough for UM to immediately dismiss him with cause.

That's a strong theory. I…

That's a strong theory. I like it.

#1 is the most interesting…

#1 is the most interesting one to me by far. Based on the notes from the police log, "someone" was accessing email accounts without authorization. And his termination letter specifically mentioned him "inappropriately accessing" accounts. But, why? For what purpose?

You only need to hook one…

You only need to hook one whale!

I'm trying to picture having…

I'm trying to picture having a "friendly argument" with a guy who won hundreds of national debates. Seems like by the time you were finished talking, he'd have you agreeing with his position.

He was gay, Gary Cooper?

He was gay, Gary Cooper?

Playing the long game....

Playing the long game....

So what I am hearing is MSU…

So what I am hearing is MSU can lowball him and get a good coach for a bargain price!

The question in my mind is,…

The question in my mind is, why would he *want* to go to MSU? Their big man play has never been a strength, and they almost literally have no one at that position after Sissoko entered the portal.

Maybe I am misremembering,…

Maybe I am misremembering, but I thought money raised by a Kickstarter had to be used for the purpose it was raised for? Like I'd be all for the staff taking a cut to pay for their time there and here, but like I said, not sure it can be.

It's gotta be a lot more…

It's gotta be a lot more than that, remember the poster with like a seven digit negative number?

Not only did he go to a Pro…

Not only did he go to a Pro Bowl, every so often you see those clips of their skills competition resurface. Jim looks like he's having a blast.

Harbaugh went to the Pro…

Harbaugh went to the Pro Bowl with the Colts though.

Jim McMahon, yes.

Admittedly I had to look it…

Admittedly I had to look it up, but a fullback was drafted in the first round as recently as 1994 (William Floyd).

I was expecting you to get…

I was expecting you to get buried for suggesting Yale is a more prestigious university than UM. Disappointed in you lot.

Shit, I'm a State grad, and…

Shit, I'm a State grad, and I can comfortably admit that assist was beautiful.

Shit, I'm a State grad, and…

Shit, I'm a State grad, and I can comfortably admit that assist was beautiful.

Totally TOTALLY agree. From…

Totally TOTALLY agree. From a fan perspective, it sucks. Like, why even watch the first few weeks of the season? They're glorified scrimmages at best, and at worst, well, *nods knowingly at App State.*

In a 12-team playoff system,…

In a 12-team playoff system, scheduling anyone but the weakest possible opponents for OOC play seems foolhardy. You can safely assume the Big Ten will be a gauntlet and have at least two, probably three qualifiers for the playoffs. Why play a tough game OOC and risk a loss?

Re: charges being filed,…

Re: charges being filed, their presence or lack thereof doesn't necessarily indicate anything. Assuming he is telling the truth, he could very well decide that 4.5MM (for him) is not worth further ruining his friend's life.

Now, whether he is telling the truth? I'm skeptical. There's a lot of smoke, a lot of changing details, a lot of stonewalling. I sort of doubt the truth will ever come out unless they can somehow produce definitive proof that Ohtani was the one responsible. More likely his translator will continue to be a scapegoat. This might tarnish Ohtani's reputation a bit but having read stories about Pete Rose for who knows how long, I get the feeling that the majority of baseball fans really don't care about gambling.

Bo: "Don, don't ever do that…

Bo: "Don, don't ever do that again."

Canham: "Now, I don't think I'll have to."

Was the SEC thing ever…

Was the SEC thing ever confirmed? All I ever saw was a tweet from one person saying the SEC was talking to UM/tOSU.
