Loving the UAlbany connection!!

Semantics about wasting…

Semantics about wasting aside, I am also 100% Team Tuttle as the path to 10 wins. If Orji starts at QB, the defense will go with 9-10 in the box until he shows he can beat it. We will of course try to run, but that will make it tough sledding, especially with the turnover at OL and no clear blocking TE.

And the elephant in the room if Orji starts is this -- do you really think that Moore, who learned under Harbaugh, is going to have our QB1 carrying the ball on many designed runs? I highly doubt it. What I see is an offense that is RB-run-heavy, coupled with a short passing game, trying to operate against a loaded box, which will probably have a spy on Orji --since his second "read" will probably be "take off" -- at all times. Not a recipe for success.

Nope, it's Tuttle, or a difficult slog on offense.

Charblue -- I like this post…

Charblue -- I like this post, because I think you (unintenionally?) proved the point that Team 144 was the best in Michigan history. They ran through the entire schedule unscathed, often without figuratively breaking a sweat. 15-0, all while facing perhaps the most off-field pressure, petty distractions, AND on-field difficulties of any squad in modern CFB. Missing your HC for 3 of the biggest games of the season? No problem. Finding out less than 24 hours before a huge away game? No problem. Injured 5-star and generational QB for the biggest games of the season? No problem. Losing a team leader to a horrific injury in a huge game? No problem. Team 144 handled it all, and more.

1997 was great, undefeated, awesome. But they didn't overcome what this team overcame.

Team 144, the best ever.

As far as what's not there…

As far as what's not there yet....

Defense: Everything is "there" except for safety and maybe CB. Losing Moore was unfortunately huge, especially considering Sabb's departure. So we're kinda thin there. Also we have the CB2 issue again, but I am reasonably confident we'll be OK there. So, overall, what's not quite there is the defensive backfield. The front seven are sufficient to achieve anything.

Offense: As far as NC aspirations, QB is definitely not there, and it won't be, even with a healthy Tuttle. OL is probably not quite there, especially considering we are missing a blocking TE (if you consider Bredeson as a FB type-thing). If Loveland takes the next logical step up, TE/WR is reasonably fine given our style. Unless Donovan performs in every game, RB isn't quite there, though Donovan may put the team on his back -- he has that ability. My gut feeling is that this offense tops us out at a possible playoff berth and possible conference title. As others have said, we are going to face a lot of 3rd and 9, without JJ to bail us out.

That all being said, this team led by a healthy Tuttle gives us a shot at the conference, and that's not bad after graduating everyone we did.

We have been National Champions in football since January. I can think of worse positions to be in.

Hopefully Michigan reaches out to him and helps him out with a position. He's a member of the family and it seems like he could use the support right now.

As someone who struggles with mental health issues, I know something about the challenge. Therefore, I hope also that if Michigan reaches out, he takes the help.

No matter what, I'm wishing all the best to Trente.

I felt the same way until…

I felt the same way until another poster dug out some stats and showed that Goff did do decently well last season when pressured. I didn't think he did, like at all. But apparently he did fine, statistically anyway.

As long as the Lions continue to field a top-flight OL -- and I think they will under Campbell -- Goff will be sufficient for SB-winning aspirations. I still think it's a bit of an overpay, but that's just nit-picking.

Seems like it's a bit high -…

Seems like it's a bit high -- I guessed 4/200 or a little south of there. But you can't nickel-and-dime your QB1 in the NFL. In a couple years, this won't even be one of the top deals.

The 212 million is market rate, par for the course, etc. Fine. Sports is what it is.

I have a real problem with food insecurity in this country, where we can easily grow/produce enough nutritious food to feed everyone well. Whatever else is going on in the country, having enough food should be a baseline that should always be satisfied.

Should have just made this a posbang thread.

Of course it's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!!! (This axiom is a given and is demonstrated without proof)

Tunneler has the right…

Tunneler has the right answer here. If you're not getting playing time and you transfer, you're most likely going to transfer somewhere where it's highly likely you're going to play a lot, to get on NFL radar.

He most likely has getting to the league as his #1 priority, and I can't argue with that at all.

Good post, also you need to…

Says it all. Walker (and tempo) beat us in that game. Didn't have much to do with Thorne.

Walker: 23/197 for an 8.6 avg and 5 TD

Thorne: 19/30 for 196, 0 TD/2 INT for a 48.4 QBR

And it still took stupid officiating shenanigans to beat us that day.

Good call.....I edited my post to add that stats proved me wrong. +1.

This is the best way to get…

This is the best way to get an advantage, but the opportunities are dwindling. I think only FanDuel and DraftKings are doing it this way now - and it seems to be $5/$100 or $5/$150 instead of $5/$200. The "matching" $250 at BetRivers is long gone. At least i did those three when they still had good opportunities.

This has to be qualified…

This has to be qualified. Goff is worse under pressure than most NFL starters. But he's also better than most when kept clean. Behind a top-flight OL, Goff will win the Lions many games.
But that's the conundrum with re-signing him, especially long-term. You have to maintain the OL at a very high level as well, or else there's trouble.

[EDITED: Apparently, my statement is categorically wrong. But I'll leave it up so the response correcting what I said doesn't look silly. My bad, though.....]

This is the correct answer…

This is the correct answer. Both main points, or sets of points, are true. Warde and Harbaugh did not have a great working relationship. Harbaugh also wanted to go back to the NFL. Whether or not Harbaugh was being completely honest when he said "all I wanted was for Michigan to show me the love" is something I doubt we'll ever know.

My position stays the same -- this all happened, fine, but fundamentally I don't care, because we won a title. Under the most difficult circumstances possible, we won the National Title. Michigan Team 144 might be the pinnacle of team football, bar none.

It's becoming a crazy, crazy…

It's becoming a crazy, crazy world of college athletics, but the only thing I am pretty certain of -- IMO, of course -- is that Title IX will impact this in very significant ways.

IOW, he didn't want to block…

IOW, he didn't want to block. And if there's one thing you have to do, and have to want to do, for Michigan, it's block.

Haha, LOL. we have had…

Haha, LOL. we have had almost zero indication that DE will be used that way. In fact, word is he has bulked up (15 pounds gained? Something like that) presumably to be a better between-the-tackles runner.

As others have said, I'll believe The Don will be utilized consistently as a pass catcher when I see it in games. Then, I will gladly admit my wrongness.

Nope, we're going to run A LOT and any effective passing game will go through Loveland. He will have to have a huge year for us. Welcome to Rock Fight Season.

One prominent term in the…

One prominent term in the Xfinity / Bally flap is "downtiering" -- meaning they want to stick Bally Sports on a specialty tier to get more revenue from customers. This probably factors into the overall disagreement somehow.

If the customer service on…

If the customer service on the call is poor or comes with a bad attitude, then yeah I get the vitriol. But getting pissed about the price? All you're really doing is making someone's shitty day in a shitty job worse. Do you get pissed at the grocery store cashier about the prices going up too?

The only thing to do is cut the cord, and even that will have zero effect.

Benetti (sp?) has been very…

Benetti (sp?) has been very entertaining. I definitely see the talent......

Good Morning, National…

Good Morning, National Champions....

All good points made here. Both main themes are true. Michigan won a National Championship by focusing on the run -- even with the best college QB the team has ever put on the field. That got us all the way to the title, yes, but it also is a clear message to transfer WRs looking to make a splash to get on draft boards that that splash is not going to happen here.
Add in the issues at QB this year, and WRs are going to stay away. I'm not surprised much at all. What does surprise me is that we're not getting the best of TE/OL/RB that's out there every single year. Those players should be lining up to be featured here.

Back to listening to the Tigers on the radio.....what a throwback. I'm oddly okay with it. I won't be okay with not having the Wings, so something will have to change before that season starts.

This is a great scenario and deserves A LOT more than the +1 I can bestow upon you.

I agree with being able to…

I agree with being able to watch so many from the '23 team. What a special group!

The storyline I will watch most, though, is the progress upward of the teams in the NFC North. It looks like the Packers for certain, and also probably the Vikings and Bears (perhaps delayed by one year) have gotten measurably better. Granted, so have the Lions, but their road to repeating as division champs will be much tougher in 2024. And, for all the talk of Super Bowl, it all starts with getting that division title and home playoff game.

That being said, I like your other points, and I am looking most forward to watching Blake Corum. Probably my favorite Michigan player of all time. I hope he tears it up this season.

All-name team.

All-name team.

This was my first thought…

This was my first thought. The author just figures "NFL = pass first" and Michigan was run-first. What the author missed / is missing is when Michigan needed JJ to pass, he was money a great deal of the time.
