'the most Michigan fan question ever', or a WolverBills fan lament
Apologies if a snowflake, but my anxiety is building this afternoon. I wrote into the Buffalo News with this, what a friend called "both the most Michigan question and answer ever, getting in as many humble brags and subtle digs as possible", especially because I was asking a question to which I already knew the answer, and likely better than the correspondent:
[StStAp] asks: As a fan of college football’s greatest team as well as the Bills, a while ago I said it felt like the Bills haven’t picked a Michigan Wolverine since Jay Riemersma! Unfortunately, this turned out to be right (1996, the year after Todd Collins). That’s likely too many administrations to be an intentional avoidance, but it especially stings here with the Bills taking such a long string of consistently underwhelming Buckeyes (Nate Clements the only hit this millennium). Might this be the year the Bills finally add to the list of distinguished Wolver-Bills? With UM (No. 5 all time in NFL draftees) on the cusp of a new record for most NFL draft picks in a year, who do you think fits the Bills’ system and/or needs?
Jay: As you would expect from a national championship roster, there are several Wolverines who could make sense for the Bills. In the early rounds, wide receiver Roman Wilson and defensive tackle Kris Jenkins are second-round possibilities. On Day 3, center Drake Nugent, guard Zak Zinter, wide receiver Cornelius Johnson and defensive end Jaylen Harrell all could fit into the Bills’ plans. I didn’t realize it had been so long since the Bills had drafted a player from Michigan. That’s a fun bit of research, [StStAp].
If the Bills make it through the draft without picking a Wolverine this year, when we (Deus volat) set the record...then when? In related news, we've had no real postseason success. (God help me if we take yet another terrible Buckeye, like Cardale Jones or Adolphus Washington etc.)
As a PS, I offer condolences to Lions fans. As someone who had to root against Brady for 20 years while he kicked our tails twice annually, I feel for what you're going to have to go through.
Extremely weak on relevancy, but I am one of the few Wolverines in existence that has actually butchered a real Buffalo a.k.a. a bison. Pretty darn good eating.
I love how on brand this post is for you.
And what was/is in your cup when you ate/eat it?
and what did he drive it home in?
A box…
And what was/is in your cup when you ate/eat it?
Well, we're talking XM. Definitely red pop!
Oh yeah, well, my great-great grandpa killed a whole flock of Dodo birds. Personally, I killed one of the last California Condors back in the 80s and have plans to kill a Siberian Tiger next year.
Hey, if you can brag about killing virtually-extinct animals, so can I! :-)
Not sure if a/
But, He ate it, so it’s fair game - pun intended.
Now Trophy hunting virtually-extinct animals, seems unnecessary.
Just in case you, or anyone else is actually concerned, it was not hunting. It was a Guy who has a ranch and raises them. I just helped him process them from time to time, back in the day.
In my pastry chef days, I went with a Chicago chef to do a series of dinners in Hawaii. I worked in a hotel kitchen alongside two chefs, one Japanese and one Hawaiian. They taught me how to bone a duck, something you never do in pastry. Butchering is a really cool skill to have.
...For when the zombie apocalypse does arrive. And you know it's coming.
All of our kids, and yes, that does most definitely include the two daughters, have learned at least the basics of butchering, and the boys even more than that. Somewhere I have pictures of my girls carving and skinning cattle. The most beautiful, sweet, pretty darn athletic, farm girls you ever saw, but I might be a tad biased
Ya know --- if they're the right age, perhaps there might come a time to introduce one of them to a very nice, young, east coast man, with a steep career curve in finance. No farming experience, but, you know: the offer includes beaches, boating, skeet, hiking. Guy has a good pedigree too, 😉
sure. boating, skeet, hiking, all good. they'll have to pass rigorous physical testing - 40 yd dash, 3-cone drill, 3 pt shooting, vertical, endurance running, wrestling, riflery, etc. after that, the theological exam is pretty detailed, too.
All manageable. Let's discuss size and composition of dowery too. 😉
beef cattle and rigs that can haul them would be a great start.
A pastry chef? Cool.
Do you cook pastry for your family?
I do, but nothing as complicated as I used to make. Also, my kids were picky, they wouldn't eat anything with fruit so I kept it to brownies and cakes mostly. I do bake all our bread now. That was a Covid development and I really like doing it.
Nah, I was having fun. The number of species humans have made extinct compared to large, rapidly flying rocks is laughable
was it the Great White Buffalo
Call him Ishmael?
Ishmael-ish
Uncle Tedly has entered the chat…
I killed a millipede the other day.
How could you?!
It was either him or me.
Wendy, I never figured you for a cold-blooded killer. Learn something new every day.
I'm impressed. It must have been a thousand-to-one shot.
But you're not the only one who's had bison. You're right: pretty darn good eating.
Ill root for JJ in every single game. He has brought a lot of football joy to me and my family and I wont soon forget it. I root for UM and casually watch the NFL players and playoff games. Im glad Lions fans are having a blast they absolutely deserve it.
Having only watched a handful of Bills games the last few years, I like the Cornelius Johnson fit with Josh Allen. Good blocker and always seems to get open in scramble drill situations.

I love the ask. Solid shade. And Riemersma was a beast for them.
thanks! great late pick for the Bills--#244!
Btw, solid old school logo too. Bryce Drew?
went to HS with him! thanks man. wish it were still the logo. alas.
Watched his sister play in HS when the old man was still at Bethel College. Homer was a legend.
Region!
WOW! We are not old …but her son just played for Bryce at GCU last year.
Region! Remember Brown Bear on here? He was a Regionite IIRC
It’s funny that the guy actually posted your anti-Ohio, pro-Michigan question.
Sadly, it appears there will be no Michigan players drafted by Buffalo for at least another year
So was (OT) Paul Seymour, O.J.'s on-the-road- roommate. I bumped into Seymour once--and promptly fell backward as he scowled down at me.
I recall a pro bowl safety and hard hitting buckeye who worked out for the bills several years ago.. unfortunately, that pick was a hit for them.
i dunno... if you're talking about Donte WHIFFner
i mean.
...ok he WAS pro bowl...but not with the bills so
I’m a Dolphins fan and you would think they would have a few Wolverines on the team
Hello Buffalo.
Thank you for the wings. If I find a restaurant/bar that serves good ones I will order them just about every time.
I have some good friends from there that are/were all transplants to San Diego. When a couple that played on our softball team ended their relationship, the dude to remain nameless (although it's probably Googleable) came and lived in my house for a couple years. During that time his father was arrested - he turned out to be "The Bike Path Killer". Serial rapist. Serial murderer. TRUE STORY. Parents came and visited one time while he was roommate and I played golf with the guy. I think he just died in prison not that long ago - suicide or murder cant remember. He was doing this back like 30 something yrs ago. Then stopped for decades, then started again. Detectives never stopped looking for him.
Well...that escalated quickly.
The bills naturally will end up drafting folks like this guy.To their credit, that guy has a 'bill' and probably an impressive wing-span.
Update
I HATE MY FAVORITE PRO TEAM
Michigan über alles
Somewhat related ----- the Carolina Panthers are the only NFL franchise that has never drafted a Clemson Tiger.
For those who remember, Carolina actually played their 1st season in Clemson's stadium!
