Bryan Fuller and I both sat this game out for some family time, David Wilcomes picked up the mantle this weekend.

Michigan Football vs Bowling Green 2023 (David Wilcomes)
I pointed out yesterday that this weekend was probably the least enthusiastic I've felt for a football Saturday (at least in the Harbaugh era), but that this feeling was still, you know, fine. I tailgated for eight hours, drank some cheap champagne while watching some noon games on my phone, saw a bunch of friends. It was delightful. The game was frustrating but fine. I watched the end of the Rocky Mountain showdown on the floor of the Detroit airport at 1:30 in the morning. I think a lot of us are burned out from two straight years of non-meaningful non-conference schedules. But much like a pizza (and some other unnamed metaphors), even when it's not that good, it's still pretty good.
If there's ever something we'll remember this game for, though, it was the stadium lights. The new maize and blue strobe lights were put into effect and boy did the stadium operators try to get their money's worth.
One criticism of the Rutgers Shi Stadium experience (real words I just typed) were the strobe lights after a touchdown. They were a bit much. I don't think we've gone full Rutger, never go full Rutger. But we are fully flirting with Rutger ideations.
I sat in my seat for a few minutes after the game had ended and they just... kept on going.
The game has ended and the lights have been doing this for like a solid two minutes pic.twitter.com/qSjVqnRQtz

Some people found it to be overkill, others loved it. I felt like they were a bit much but this does look really pretty:

If nothing else it made for some fun lighting.
What did you think of the lights? Fun? Overkill? Just right?
Anyways, I'm ready for conference games. You're ready for conference games. Kris Jenkins is ready for conference games.
I think we're all ready for some meaningful games now. But in the meantime, photos!

What do I think of the lights? I'll let you know when I've fully recovered from my seizure.

thx for embedding Mr. Brightside!
Thought the lights were nice. A bit much at times — no reason to flash them for that long postgame, or after a made field goal. But overall a nice game day atmosphere boost and the players liked them.

It's not Journey at The Joe but I'm warming up to it.

The lights are way over done.
Pretty sure they were trying to signal alien spacecraft.

No kidding...once or twice would have been more than adequate.

Ahhh, it was between quarters and during a song.

Only watched on TV, but the lights were really annoying there - I can only imagine how bad it was in the stadium.

The lights obviously had much more of a positive effect on those witnessing the spectacle in the stadium. On TV it just looked goofy to me. Maybe I should have had all my lights turned off (sans the TV) though I don't think it would have been the same! I think I will need to flash my maize and blue LED lights at home (get some first!) so I can have a common experience.

Nice lights but use them MUCH less. It was extremely overdone -- far past the point of being cool and well into annoying. Using them in a couple of key moments each game is plenty.

As long as they don't do this, I'm OK with em'

The lights were pretty cool. You can tell they don't really know how to use them yet from a creative direction but I'm assuming they'll get more comfortable and start making better choreographed light shows.
Still cant stop thinking that mr cuckside song is played out, we need to move on from ever hearing that song again.

We need fireworks.

imagine if they had installed these lights during the RR or hoke era. People would have lost their minds like they do when they almost put in fireworks. I think fireworks would be kinda cool . . .

I just want to know how many phone calls Warde is answering today from donors complaining about the lights. lol
