Just like your UCLA matchup…

Just like your UCLA matchup that was canceled, Ohio State’s matchup with Washington that was supposed to have been this season was canceled. But nobody has been scheduling tougher OOC than OSU and we have Texas, Alabama, and Georgia already scheduled. Although, honestly, with all of the conference realignment, I’m not 100% convinced that all of those will happen. And more likely from the SEC side.

UM didn’t want JH to testify…

UM didn’t want JH to testify under oath and perjure himself.

Film study is not scouting…

Film study is not scouting. But fine. “In-person advanced scouting”. We all know what we are talking about. The constant nitpicking of words “sign stealing is legal!” is rather juvenile. There is literally nobody complaint about normal in-game sign stealing.

Sorry if it seems like I’m…

Sorry if it seems like I’m trolling or whatever.

My parents met in grad school at Ohio State. My Mom’s brother got his BS, MS, PhD in Physics at OSU but moved to Michigan after school and raised 3 UM grads, 6 degrees between them. I have 2 degrees from OSU but almost went to UM. I grew up with family on both sides of this rivalry and I find this controversy to be very sad. Maybe a bitter rivalry but I always thought it was a respectful one. Too many traditions in CFB are being destroyed these days, I don’t think this should be one of them.

Every B1G school has shared…

Every B1G school has shared what they have found to the conference and NCAA.

Advanced scouting is not…

Advanced scouting is not legal. I’ll admit that the wording of the rule is not as precise as it should be, but there’s no interpretation of the rules that says that it’s permitted.

I didn’t come on here to…

I didn’t come on here to trash talk.

From an Ohio State…

From an Ohio State perspective…

We’re pretty amused at all of the venom Michigan fans have toward Ryan Day. My insider info that I’m hearing is that he’s howling at all of this because he had absolutely nothing to do with the investigations that revealed issues and that the investigations originated from within UM and some of Harbaugh’s internal enemies. I don’t know anything, but if UM really had evidence that Day and OSU had done anything illegal, it would be insane to not trumpet that data loudly. Regardless, nobody in the OSU football program wants the game canceled, they are dying for a shot at a win.

I’m hearing that there is now evidence that links the entire coaching staff, including Jim, to use of the video data, which eliminates the CS rogue operation angle, and has changed the tenor of the discussions from “if” penalties are going to be imposed but to “how severe” they will be. Would be interested to hear what you all think if that’s true.

Come on, y’all aren’t…

Come on, y’all aren’t leaving the B1G. But to put numbers to it, the B1G media deal and Grant of Rights says that UM will get between $80-100M per year over 7 years. so that is $560-700M total. Nobody has ever tried to leave in the modern era, but if the numbers I’ve heard that FSU and Clemson would probably have to pay to leave the ACC are accurate ($100-200M on an absolutely horrible media deal) then I would expect that UM would have to pay $200-400M to leave.

GOR says that if you leave, wherever you go the media income goes to the B1G. The only conference that has a deal commensurate with ours is the SEC. Otherwise, the revenue in question would be much less. Worth noting that the loss in revenue from leaving the B1G Academic Alliance from an R&D perspective would be much greater than the media revenue impacts.

As a Buckeye, my belief re:…

As a Buckeye, my belief re: Meyer is that he is at a point in his career that his ego will be the dominant driving force for any decisions that he makes. Yes, he recently said he isn't interested in coaching, but I don't think any OSU fans believe that. But after the Jax disaster, there is zero chance that he is going to take on a major rebuild. He took on huge challenges early on in his career at Bowling Green and Utah, his success at those stops is part of his "mystique".

Anyway, I have huge questions whether he can still be so successful in today's CFB landscape. He is a sledgehammer, tortures players into high performance, not sure in a portal world that he can do that.

Yes. To add to that, Kevin…

Yes. To add to that, Kevin Wilson’s favorite run play was Outside Stretch, and they built an entire offensive play tree off of Stretch. This calls for the whole offensive line to do difficult reach blocks, and even over the last two seasons with an OL full of NFL-ready linemen they struggled to block that and their main RBs struggled to run Stretch. It is long overdue for Stretch to go away. Regardless, Ohio State is a pass-to-open-up-the-run team. And any team that has Marvin Harrison Jr, Emeka Egbuka, Cade Stover, Fleming, Tate, Inniss, Johnson would be.

QB sacks and the Devin Brown…

QB sacks and the Devin Brown red zone package have dragged the ypc numbers down a lot for the Buckeyes. Which is to say, some of that is true for any team. But if you adjust for those, the average ypc is a 4.76. But still, I would say, early in the season, OSU really struggled to run. They have adjusted their run calls to be more optimized for the abilities of their OL and RBs and are running much better now. Particularly with Henderson healthy.

No, Brown isn't out for the…

No, Brown isn't out for the year. Supposed to be back practicing this week at some level, although there is no chance he plays against Rutgers unless something goes horribly wrong.

I'm not Chuck, but I like to…

I'm not Chuck, but I like to think I'm pretty level headed.

The OL this season, probably one of the weaker run blocking lines in memory at Ohio State, but have gotten much better over the last couple weeks. Some of that is run scheme. Pretty good pass blocking overall, but certainly can get beat a few times a game. And McCord needs to improve his pocket presence, that would help his OL tremendously, because a number of the sacks and other bad plays have been his fault, not the OL. All of this is self evident, no surprises. The OSU OL room 2 years ago was incredibly strong, never got the credit that it deserved. 4 of those 5 starters left with remaining eligibility, and 4 of them are currently starting in the NFL. But the problem for that room was that the previous OL coach Studrawa had completely whiffed for a couple years in recruiting, so there was almost no depth behind Munford, Petit-Frere, Johnson, Jones, and Wypler and the couple highly ranked guys that we did have remaining have struggled. Hard to believe that Ohio State is starting a left tackle transferred from San Diego State. But Simmons has really started to come on and athletically he is gifted. If only he could stop the silly penalties.
