Iowa QB Deacon Hill enters the transfer portal
Cade is still the nominal #1, but word is he is still pretty immobile and not taking snaps yet. Deacon Hill was the clear #2 and just entered the portal. Iowa's 2024 passing game could actually be worse than last year.
I be like dang.

Maybe he could walk-on at Defiance College. Not sure if he'd win the job there though...
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:09 AM ^
No, no, no...we need to go get this guy Deacon Hill, he played a lot in a fantastic offense, right? Right?
Ok, fuck it, let's pass on him...I guess.
Logged in to upvote an agree. He was so bad that I'm not sure he could start for an NAIA program.
I'm not sure Defiance College is going to exists that much further. They're struggling with accreditation.

Obligatory "he must've gotten the Deacon Blues" comment.
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:51 AM ^
They call Alabama "the Crimson Tide"!

Sounds very NSFW

Or maybe his decision is giving the Hawkeye coaching staff the Deacon Blues . . .
They got a name for the winners in the world,
And I want a name when I lose,
They call Ann Arbor the Wolverines...
If this guy was our QB I might ...
Drink scotch whiskey all night long
I can see why he transferred. Given the level of returning talent Iowa has on offense (which to be fair includes himself), he would be a fool to do their dirty work
He said, “I’m never going back to my old school”
April 23rd, 2024 at 10:57 AM ^
He’ll be a good OL for some team 😏

Brenden Sullivan. NW Grad Transfer. From Davison, MI. May be worth a look for Michigan. Played well last year for them. Don’t think this would chase off Orji either.
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:20 AM ^
Yeah, I just saw that and am a bit surprised - he was projected to be their starter, and played enough last year that he was a bit of a known quantity. I'm not sure NW loved having him as their starter - he was effective in spurts but they clearly preferred Bryant and kept giving him the nod. But probably worth talking to if he's interested, though I assume he's inclined to go to a place with a clearer path to starting.

I like the idea, but apparently, Sullivan is going to Iowa.
April 23rd, 2024 at 12:30 PM ^
Well then he is in my prayers.
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:52 AM ^
His stats are pretty decent.
2022- 71/96-74% 589 yards 4 TDs/3 INTs 133-RTG
2023-63/99-63.6% 714 yards 6 TDs/2 INTs 140.2-RTG
With some better coaching, he could be a really good QB.
April 23rd, 2024 at 12:54 PM ^
That's an obligatory fuck Davison from me. Go Kearsley.
Hey Fellow Kearsley alum!
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:00 AM ^
Cade, immediately after his knee injury was still more mobile than Deacon.
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:03 AM ^
Joe Theismann would be a closer comparison.

Not the qb portal news we need
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:03 AM ^
Having watched 2023 Iowa it is hard to contemplate the possibility of 2024 Iowa’s passing game being worse. Hill leaving doesn’t really change that.
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:14 AM ^
The only way their passing game could be worse is if they threw it backwards.
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:49 AM ^
Don't give them any ideas, I like them exactly how they are...never change!
Spiking the ball would have been an overall improvement.
If they threw it backward it would be rushing stats, not passing stats, so…

I thought this post was gonna question if he were a take here. Unless they get a arch manning type, I want no portal QB, and like what we have
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:10 AM ^
I'm not even sure about Arch Manning. That would be pretty similar to starting Jayden Davis - they both have about the same amount of college playing time. But I'd still take Arch.
Well, at least if he doesn't care about another $250K recruiting weekend block party.
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:45 AM ^
No program is saying no to Arch Manning lol
April 23rd, 2024 at 12:38 PM ^
Arch has a year of college football practices under his belt. He and Davis are not the same.
And played in a few games.
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:25 AM ^
I wouldn't say I like what we have, but if we're going to portal someone in and roll the dice on disrupting the little QB continuity we do have, it would have to be for someone who is actually, like good.

New OC Tim Lester must have had a heart-to-heart with Deacon “City on a” Hill after the spring game.
Hill reportedly did…mediocre, continuing his run of mediocre passing from last year. He has occasional flashes of accuracy, but IMHO last season was his death knell. Quarterbacks can be broken.
The other non-Cade QB (Marco Lainez III) is more of an RPO guy who can run. Which means that if Hill refuses to pass downfield, then Lainez has an advantage.
Cade is still in a knee brace. He’s throwing in 7-on-7 drills, but can’t even drop back yet. If he’s even close to healthy by fall, he’ll be starting. His passing ability is miles ahead of the other options.
The biggest issue is that Iowa WRs still haven’t discovered that they have hands. It’s gonna be another year where Luke Lachey is reads 1, 2, and 3.
I feel bad for Deacon Hill. He was sacrificed on the altar of Brian “for some reason my dad made me a QB coach” Ferentz…and now he probably won’t have many FBS suitors.
Also, Iowa just lost WR Jacob Bostic to the portal.
Bostick played in 5 games but had no stats last season. Redshirted in 2022 due to injury. Praises god and tweets every time he receives an offer.
Not a loss for the Hawkeyes.

Before anyone asks, . . .
NO.

So, it's NOT a toupee?

Are there even any QBs in the portal that we would want? I keep hearing people talk about getting a portal QB but I don't know if anyone's even out there
Excuse me, they are real and they're spectacular.

He was the chubby QB who did not have great pass accuracy.

The Pillsbury Woeboy?
RIP to the Hefty Lefty aka the Real Pillsbury Throwboy …. Jared Lorenzen
Guy broke 15 NCAA records at 6’4” and nearly 300lbs (though watching film there were times he was well over 300 lbs in his career)

In the portal for bowlers? Because dude has more of a bowler body honestly.
When I saw this guy play against Michigan, he looked to me like some Div.3 QB. I thought, dang. Is this the best they could find?
April 23rd, 2024 at 11:21 AM ^
We are looking for a backup defensive tackle in the portal...
