Cade is still the nominal #1, but word is he is still pretty immobile and not taking snaps yet. Deacon Hill was the clear #2 and just entered the portal. Iowa's 2024 passing game could actually be worse than last year.

I be like dang.

Brenden Sullivan. NW Grad Transfer. From Davison, MI. May be worth a look for Michigan. Played well last year for them. Don’t think this would chase off Orji either.

Yeah, I just saw that and am a bit surprised - he was projected to be their starter, and played enough last year that he was a bit of a known quantity.  I'm not sure NW loved having him as their starter - he was effective in spurts but they clearly preferred Bryant and kept giving him the nod.  But probably worth talking to if he's interested, though I assume he's inclined to go to a place with a clearer path to starting.

Having watched 2023 Iowa it is hard to contemplate the possibility of 2024 Iowa’s passing game being worse.  Hill leaving doesn’t really change that.

New OC Tim Lester must have had a heart-to-heart with Deacon “City on a” Hill after the spring game.

Hill reportedly did…mediocre, continuing his run of mediocre passing from last year. He has occasional flashes of accuracy, but IMHO last season was his death knell. Quarterbacks can be broken.

The other non-Cade QB (Marco Lainez III) is more of an RPO guy who can run. Which means that if Hill refuses to pass downfield, then Lainez has an advantage.

Cade is still in a knee brace. He’s throwing in 7-on-7 drills, but can’t even drop back yet. If he’s even close to healthy by fall, he’ll be starting. His passing ability is miles ahead of the other options.

The biggest issue is that Iowa WRs still haven’t discovered that they have hands. It’s gonna be another year where Luke Lachey is reads 1, 2, and 3.

I feel bad for Deacon Hill. He was sacrificed on the altar of Brian “for some reason my dad made me a QB coach” Ferentz…and now he probably won’t have many FBS suitors.
